Feel the beauty of Japanese summer with refreshing fragrances

In Japan, the end of rainy season in June marks the beginning of true summer.

To cope with the heat, people have long embraced traditional ways of seeking cool — enjoying the gentle sound of wind chimes, or sprinkling water at the entrance to cool the air and ground.

These customs are part of Japan’s unique approach to summer: finding coolness through the senses.

We would love to introduce a refreshing Japanese scent, accompanied by uplifting items to help you find coolness on a hot day.

A fleeting summer flower that blooms at night

The delicate beauty of a blossom, captured in the scent of sandalwood.

GENJI series - “Yuugao/Moonflower” Incense

The large, pure white blossoms of the yuugao/Moonflower glow softly in the quiet summer night, releasing a sweet fragrance.

Its form, which fading away by the next day, echoes the delicate and ephemeral beauty of Yuugao, the tragic heroine of The Tale of Genji.

“The Tale of Genji” Chapter 4: Yuugao

One day, Prince Genji comes across a blooming yuugao flower by the moat.

Intrigued, he instructs his attendant to fetch the blossom.

In response, a delicate young woman — Yuugao — places the flower atop a fan scented with incense and offers it to him.

On the fan, a graceful waka poem is written in beautiful handwriting.

Deeply moved, Genji composes a poem in reply.

Through this exchange of poetry, they gradually become attracted to each other.

This delicate beauty of the yuugao flower is captured in the scent of sandalwood for “Yuugao/Moonflower” incense.

Before lighting, it offers a charming fragrance with a clear and tangy scent.

Once lit, it release a soft and calming scent in the air.

Overlapping lines and bright green

"Kumiko" is a traditional Japanese woodworking technique that creates intricate patterns by fitting together thin pieces of wood without the use of nails.

Our new product ,“Incense Holder Kumiko”, features one of Kumiko's classic designs — the "Goma" (sesame) pattern, which is considered an auspicious motif symbolizing health and longevity.

The delicate overlapping lines and vibrant green color highlight the refined beauty of this traditional craft.

We bring you a refreshing breath of coolness from Kyoto through fragrance.
